Advanced materials maker First Graphene (ASX:FGR) is set to become the only company with approval to manufacture and sell graphene products in Australia.
AT A GLANCE
- The Australian Department of Health’s National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) has given First Graphene’s products the tick of approval
- It will allow First Graphene to produce and sell PureGRAPH products in Australia from its existing production facility
- First Graphene is the first and so far only company with regulatory approval to manufacture and sell graphene products in Australia
Earlier this week First Graphene was advised that NICNAS had assessed its PureGRAPH products for listing on the Australian Inventory of Chemical Substances (AICS).
It told the market today that the assessment is complete and approval for the production and sale of the products within Australia will follow, once the Department of the Environment and Energy complies with the report.
First Graphene produces high-quality graphene from high-grade Sri Lankan vein graphite. Graphene is a thin and strong layer of carbon. It is a promising nano-material that can greatly ramp up the performance of a wide range of materials used in various industries, from something as basic as concrete through to batteries, elastomers, fire retardant paints, polymers and water filtration.
Today’s announcement, combined with previously granted European regulatory registration, means First Graphene is one of three entities in the world with regulatory approval for the sale of up to 10 tonnes per annum of graphene powders in Europe.
“This was a critical approval in the continued growth of our graphene materials business in Australia. It demonstrates our position as the leading ethical supplier of tonnage quantities of high-quality graphene products. My thanks to our staff and university collaborators who worked on the successful application to the Department of Health,” Craig McGuckin, managing director of First Graphene, said.
