In March 2019, BUD completed the acquisition of leading smart lighting technology company LIFX. LIFX sells a range of WiFi enabled, smart lights for the home.
Board and Management
Based in San Francisco, Richard Borenstein is a venture investor, advisor and board member with more than 40 years of technology company experience. He brings extensive business, finance, accounting and entrepreneurial skills to Buddy Platform.
Richard attended the University of Michigan before going to Harvard Business School. He has taught entrepreneurship at the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Michigan and at San Quentin Prison (SF Bay Area) as part of The Last Mile program.
John van Ruth
John van Ruth has had an extensive career spanning a range of industries providing him with valuable experience and acumen in the fields of finance, IT and business strategy. He has held senior executive roles with Faulding, Adelaide Bank, RAA and Coopers Brewery Ltd.
John’s early career spanned 20 years, where he was Senior Manager at KPMG and EY, and later, a Partner at Arthur Andersen. John serves as a non-executive director on a range of not-for-profit and ASX listed organisations. John holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from the University of South Australia.
CEO and Executive Director
David is the co-founder, CEO and Executive Director of Buddy Platform. Before launching Buddy, David gained extensive international business experience, spending nearly 11 years at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, WA in the hardware, software and development teams.
Prior to moving to the US, David was a management consultant for PwC in Australia. David holds a Master of Engineering and a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering (Hons) from the University of South Australia.
Marc is the co-founder and Chief Product and Technology Officer of LIFX. He established LIFX in 2012 and has grown the business since inception up until the sale of the business to Buddy in 2019.
Prior to LIFX, he was a director of Freetronics an IoT and electronics company. He has held various engineering and product development roles with consumer technology companies including Techlynx and Interceptor Electronics.
He studied applied science and has a certificate of technology in electronics. He is a highly driven business and technology leader with international experience having worked in Silicon Valley and Australia and across Taiwan, Singapore, the UK and China.
Stuart has more than 20 year’s extensive experience in the management and corporate affairs of publicly listed companies. Stuart is a CPA, an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and a member of Chartered Secretaries Australia.
Stuart has experience across a wide range of sectors, including Financial Services, Mineral Exploration, Healthcare, Biotech, Information Technology, Mining support services, Construction and Manufacturing. Stuart has worked in Australia, USA, UK, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Stuart holds an MBA from the University of Western Australia.
